| | Our good friends Richard and Kyle are off to Denver. They rented a 26 foot truck to load their two bedroom apartment. On Saturday they got all the pre-boxed goods into the truck. This filled about the front six feet very nicely. That afternoon the truck broke down and Penske could not get another one out until Sunday morning. By 9 AM Sunday the rental company had swapped the trucks and moved the boxes that had already been loaded.
Now it was our turn to get all the furniture loaded. We knew this was a big job and have news that all went well.
Steve spent Sunday helping with the loading. We started at 9:30 AM and worked non-stop till 7 PM. One hour into the move I realized the piano was still in the apartment. A scooter ride home to get my furniture dolly and the move was in full swing. Jason, Richard and I got the piano into the truck with one gouge (we hit the elevator door) and one missing leg. On the way up the ramp we clipped one of the keyboard legs pretty hard. Sorry Kyle.
Our next hiccup involved a power outage. We had been using the elevator to bring goods down from the second floor. With the override key in hand we had full use of one elevator, leaving the second for everyone else. I know this because at 10 AM, one young lady in a zebra print mini skirt was trying to adjust her makeup waiting for that second elevator while I was loading pots and pans into the first. Must be one of those mega churches with a colorful praise service.
OK, back to the power. To save the elevator, we used the key to take it out of service so it would not answer calls to another floor. The door would stay open and all buttons were inoperative until we put the key back in. This works great until the power goes out and the doors shut automatically. The key switch is inside the elevator and we can not open the door from the outside! Luckily the elevator was empty when this happened. For the next 45 minutes we hauled the light bulky stuff down the stairs until the power returned. Unfortunately we never regained use of that elevator.
Richard and I continued loading through lunch. Our friend Cindy stopped by an we sent her off for beer, our only nourishment during the day. At 3:30 Kyle, Judy, and the kids headed off to the state fair. We were supposed to be done by then. Richard and Kyle were going to take the kids while Judy and I planned to grill a nice anniversary dinner for ourselves. It was our 18th wedding anniversary. None of that happened. Judy and I had a great day helping friends making Sunday a terrific celebration of our anniversary. The empty Truck
By 7 PM, the truck was almost full. You are looking at 26 linear feet of household goods. The truck advertises that it holds a 5 to 7 room house. We fit a two bedroom apartment.
I got word Tuesday that all arrived in Denver and the truck is almost unloaded. Good work Richard and Kyle, best wishes in Denver.
